“BUDDING FORTUNES: Ikebana in Japan’s Postwar Recovery”
Professor Nancy Stalker talks us through the competitive strategies of three principal ikebana schools - Ikenobo, Ohara, and Sogetsu - during the 1950's through 1970's. She argues that the same strategies that supported corporate high-speed growth from the 1950s through the 1970s, such as creation of strong brand identity, diversification, and rationalization, led these schools' business to thrive and continue to operate today.
